We’ll need the following information, depending on what you’re asking us to do for you. You can submit it when you place your order. Or, you can email it to us.
Basic Package (Manual-J)
- Plans – We prefer pdf’s. They’ll need to be drawn to scale. Napkin drawings are okay, as long as they’re to scale (and you tell us what the scale is). Here’s an example of the minimum data we’d need.
- Envelope – We need to know what your floor, walls, and ceiling/roof is made of. If this is on the plans, great. If not, we’ll need you to tell us.
- Insulation – What insulation levels are being used in the house – floor/walls/roof
- Windows – We need THREE pieces of data for the windows: U-value, SHGC, and overhang details
- Doors – Describe the solid doors to us. Solid wood, insulated steel, etc.
- Infiltration – What’s the estimated air-change rate of your project? You can give this to us in ACH50, a target blower door result, or qualitatively (super-tight, kinda-tight, etc.). The more specific you are, the more accurate the result.
- Ventilation – Do you have an active ventilation system? If so, please describe what you’ll be doing.
- Duct location – Where do you plan on installing the ductwork (attic, crawlspace, between floors, etc.) for each system.
- Duct leakage – How tight will the ducts be? Will they be pressure tested after installation?
- Internal loads – If you know of specific internal loads that are out of the ordinary, let us know what they are and which room they’ll be in. We’ll account for standard kitchen appliances & people regardless.
- Orientation – In what direction does the front door face?
- If you’d like to use a form to send some of this data to us (or print it out to complete by hand), feel free to use this one.
Equipment Specifications (Manual-S)
- We’ll need a pdf of the equipment specifications you plan to use.
- Condenser info must include “detailed cooling capacity” data that lists capacity at various indoor/outdoor air conditions.
- If you’re using a separate coil (not part of a fan coil unit), we’ll need that data as well.
- Filter sizes and static drop data, if available, should be included.
Duct Sizing (Manual-D)
- We’ll need a sketch of your desired layout. This should include: indoor-unit location, main trunkline pathways, and termination placement (supplies and returns).
- We’ll need to know what your fitting and duct material preferences are. You can refer to Appendix 3 of Manual-D for info on fittings. We could also simply discuss this over the phone
- If you opt to have us do the layout, we’ll likely need to chat with you on the phone to ask a few questions.
Terminations (Manual-T)
- We’ll want to know as much as possible about your grille preferences. Model numbers should be supplied, if possible. We’ll need to know if you plan on using flush-mounted hardwood grilles, too. Here’s a link to a Hart and Cooley catalog that you can reference for model numbers.
